Privacy Policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
Draft, pending legal review. The final version may change before RIVL leaves beta.
RIVL is a wellness companion for people living with limb loss. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have. RIVL is run by RIVL Foundation (“we”, “us”). The app is developed and published on the App Store by ProsFit Technologies AD on behalf of RIVL Foundation.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and date of birth.
- About you and your limb loss: what you tell us during setup, such as which limb, the level for each side, your prosthesis and your goals.
- Check-ins and progress: mood, sleep, pain, how you feel, habits and plan items you complete, appointments and the questions you save for them.
- Conversations with the coach and the notes it keeps so it can remember what matters to you.
- Community content: posts, messages, your profile photo and reports you make.
- Technical data: device type, app version, error reports and a push notification token if you turn reminders on.
How we use it
- To run RIVL for you: your plan, daily insights, reminders and the coach.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reported content and photos, and approving teen accounts.
- To fix problems and improve the app.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your health information for advertising.
The coach and AI
When you talk to the coach, your message and the context it needs (such as your plan and recent check-ins) are sent to an AI model to write a reply. During our beta that is Qwen, an open AI model run for us by OVHcloud (AI Endpoints) on its servers in France, so your messages to the coach are processed outside the United States. OVHcloud says it does not store or share them. It processes your message only to reply to you and does not use it to train AI models. If you turn on the coach's voice, replies are turned into speech on graphics servers we rent from RunPod, in data centres in the European Union or the United States only. Separately from your chat history, we keep quality and safety logs of coach conversations for up to 90 days; only a small team can see them. The coach is not a clinician and does not give medical advice.
Videos
Videos in Watch & learn are hosted on YouTube. Nothing is sent to YouTube until you press play; we use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, but once a video plays, Google receives the usual information about that viewing (such as your device and which video you watched) under Google's own privacy policy. We don't send YouTube your name or account.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who host and run RIVL for us: OVHcloud (our servers and the coach's AI model, in France), RunPod (the coach's voice, EU or US data centres), Postmark (account emails such as sign-in links and password resets), our encrypted backup storage provider, and Apple for push notifications. They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- People you choose: your care team, caregivers or clinicians you invite, and anyone you send a shared report to.
- Partners who invited you, only to the level you approve, and you can change or withdraw that at any time.
- When the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
Your choices
- See and change your details in Profile.
- Turn reminders and the coach’s voice on or off at any time.
- Remove people from your care team and stop sharing at any time.
- Delete your account in Profile → Delete account (caregivers: Care → Settings). This removes your data from RIVL; backups are cleared on their normal cycle.
- Ask us for a copy of your data or any other request at support@rivltech.com.
Teens
You must be at least 13 to use RIVL. If you are 13 to 17, we ask for a parent or guardian’s name and email when you sign up and email them to ask for their consent. Your account stays on hold until they agree and our team approves it. Teen profile photos are reviewed before anyone else can see them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access inside RIVL is limited by role. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong we will tell affected people as the law requires.
Where your data is kept
RIVL is offered in the United States. Your account and app data are stored on our servers with OVHcloud in France, in the European Union. Voice replies may be processed in the EU or the US, as described above.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove it from RIVL straight away. Encrypted backups are kept for up to 30 days and then deleted, so your data leaves our backups on that cycle. Coach quality and safety logs are kept for up to 90 days.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to see, correct, export or delete your data, or to stop using it for a particular purpose. If you are in the European Union or the UK, you have these rights under the GDPR and can also complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in a US state with a privacy or consumer health data law (such as California, Washington, Colorado or Connecticut), you have the rights that law gives you, including to know what we collect and to have it deleted, and we will not treat you differently for using them. Write to support@rivltech.com; we may need to confirm it is you first.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
